Art Notes:

I felt like practicing some black and white comic techniques, so this is what I drew. I heard that to save time, some manga series send their assistants about to take photos of scenes so they can draw or trace them later. I wanted to try that out and see if it could save me time. So, I used a photo I took a while back and traced it. Well, parts of it. I made up some parts and took out some of the distant background. I think it helped a bit, but at the same time, I think it might be a limited solution for a lot of the work I want to do. Unfortunately, I don't really live in a fantastic fantasy or sci-fi setting! Maybe the most important thing it did was make me think about visual depth and detail in a background. After all, once the basic perspective lines are laid out, the next big step is to ensure the right amount of detail.

Also, I felt like drawing Rin Shibuya from Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls, so that's why she's in this pic. I drew her first, then I looked through my photos to find one with the right perspective (okay, I stretched and skewed the photo to fit, too).

I drew this in Manga Studio 5, and took the photo with my old Nikon Coolpix P50.
