This is the BBC World Service... circa 1936 or so, with a field report from Manston Airfield, where a dogfight between Royal Air Force Hawker Furies and the evil Mercurian Alien forces has developed
...I see more of those alien craft approaching, five, no ten craft, and they're all descending down to...
Oh and here come our lads! They've got the jump on those alien craft, they're coming down from a great height... and our lads are behind the lead alien. He's trying to dodge their fire, but that won't do any good, they have his measure.
I wish you could see this, they've got him afire, I can see a great cloud of smoke trailing from him. His friends don't like that, they're on our lad's tails, but they don't know how skilled our pilots can be, you know. And they've dodged that fire... and now they've gotten behind the next group, but the aliens... now they're running, over the water, but they won't get far. Our Furies are very fast, and can catch them quickly, don't you know. And there goes that alien craft, and he's going to slap into the sea...and there he goes.
Artist's Notes:
I'm pretty sure I ended up with some anachronisms in that passage, but it's close enough for me...
During the Battle of Britain, Charles Gardner, working for the BBC, really did cover the air battles he could see in the sort of fashion I described above:
This picture was inspired by a photograph that I saw, where there were these two blobs of color at the very back, and when I squinted at them, I saw the two pilots that you see depicted in this picture. Everything flowed from those blobs of color. The pilot in the distance is a guy, and the one closer is a girl.
I used thick markers to help ink this one, as I wanted a specific look, and I colored it in Flash. I can see room for imrpovement, but at least it's a start.
Thanks, it was a fun pic to draw... silly, but fun. I did a quick check, and it looks like Douglas Bader was injured in the Bristol Bulldog, which is close enough, being a stable-mate of the Fury.

It's also different enough from your usual style that I had to double-check the artist!
Nice piece, and the commentary really completes it.

Something you can't have is beautiful...
Wasn't it a Hawker Fury that Douglas Bader lost both legs in?
